Niche Target Markets
Are your niche returns somewhat lack-lustre? Are you getting traffic but no conversions? Do you feel like just abandoning the whole Internet idea and going back to a 'real' job?
Well, don't give up just yet. It could be that your site is wallowing in an over-crowded niche. And just what is an over-crowded niche? Generally, this means that you are competing with too many other sites selling the same types of products that you are, and the target market is - the same buyers.
This does not mean that you will not see success from your chosen niche. What it actually means is that this, your chosen niche, is in fact highly profitable. This is why there is so much competition.
Before making any decisions, however, you need to first recognize what the actual need is. By this, I mean is it the niche you are in that is the problem - or is it actually YOU?
Have you merely thrown up a website pointing to some niche because you figured there was money to be made, then done nothing else with it? If, that is the case, then it's time to wake up and start working. The Internet is not a free ride, you have to work it to make money.
If you have been keeping your site up to date and trying to attract traffic to it, still with no joy, it may well be that your niche target market is overcrowded, so, it's time to change tactics.
Try Changing Your Target Market
There may be a problem with your chosen keywords. Let us suppose your chosen niche is gardening, a particularly far reaching topic. If you are targeting keyphrases like "desert gardens" or "rose gardens", both have already been fairly well covered.
However, if you were to target "ground cover plants" or "pruning climbing roses", you are still in the same niche but with a tenth of the competition. You will be marketing to a more specific target group of buyers.
To begin finding new keywords, or key-phrases, for better targeting of potential buyers, you really cannot go past Google's keyword tool for finding out which keywords reach respectable market numbers and which ones convert well.
Using ad tracking will help to determine which ads are getting the traffic, this will tell you what people are looking for. AdSense ads are perfect for this. You then use the results from those ads to optimize your website, using those keywords and phrases.
When your website has become more popular, with other sites linking to you, these back-links will make your web-page rank higher with search engines for those specific niche keywords and key-phrases.
Constant Content
There can be no denying that a continuous flow of new and relevant content attracts traffic from the search engines. In reality, search engines are about information, people use search engines to find out about the things they have an interest in.
By keeping your niche site regularly updated with new information, not only will this attract the search engines which equals traffic, but also and most important, this practice will give you returning traffic as prospective buyers are going to start bookmarking your site.
This is what I meant, when I said you have to work the Internet.
