I think it's more of a barrier in your mind that you start to think this achievement is for the chosen few. For example if you put in a search term into Google you get millions of web pages. How can you be number 1 out of millions of pages? Why do you think that you can win a race with a million contestants?
These are understandable but negative and incorrect beliefs and very wrong.
So here is the good news. The top search on Google is possible. The complete majority of those million pages are not optimised for your keyword phrase. Just put the phrase into speech marks to see how rapidly the figure drops from a million.
Also you can use Google commands (like intitle, inurl and inanchor) to determine the real competition. From these commands you can see how many pages are actually using the keyword phrase in the title of the web page. You can also see the pages using your keyword phrase in the URL of the page. Similarly you can see which web pages are using your keyword in the anchor text of a link. These 3 things are very simple to implement on your page to help you reach the top search on Google.
If you think you are going into competition with a million web pages it is like running a race against 1 million old ladies.
Of course it is not that simple. There are a few people who are good at running and a few web pages that you need to compete with.
So you still will need to add back links to your web page. You can set up a traffic back link campaign on a daily basis. By doing this you will soon be ranking your web page to the top.
Your back link campaign can be
1. book marking each of your web pages,
2. creating videos and back linking to your web page
3. commenting on high authority blogs and getting a back link that way
So reaching the top search on Google is possible if you do the right things and you have a plan of action. However I have left the best one to last. In my view the biggest thing in your favour is that you are prepared to do the work. Most people are lazy and will just want to cut corners. However doing this properly with a plan and a determination to keep going you will blast away the lazy competition.
