SEO Techniques - How to Check If a Website Is Indexed By Google

/ On : 9/11/2011 11:54:00 AM/ BLOG
Are you invisible on Google? If you are then no one will ever find you. It could be that your website has been indexed by Google but does not have any page optimisation to make it visible in a search or that there are no real searchable keywords in the website content.
OK, so you have a lovely new website and you've probably paid someone a lot of money to make it really special and it looks really good. Now the first thing that you want to do is to try and find yourself on Google. You can do this by typing in the name of your business or your website, it might take a while if it is a new website for Google to find it and index the content.
So, you can probably find your website when you look for it, or not?
One way to find out if your site is visible on Google is to type this into the search box on Google - site:www.yourwebsite.com then click on search, you should see your website pages in a list in the search result. This indicates how many pages of your website are in Google's index, it may or may not reflect all of your pages.
If there are no results showing for your website, then Google has not got around to indexing your website content or there could be a serious problem with your website in the way in which it has been built. A good measure is to check whether the content is search engine friendly or that search engine optimisation has been done on the website to see if google can actually read your content and index all of your words.
If there are results showing then at least your website has been indexed by Google. But now the REAL test is to search for what you do in Google and see what results are displayed. If you find results for your competitors and not your website then you NEED to perform search engine optimisation or SEO on the content in your website.
