"Understanding Meta Tags, Keywords and SEO" is some of that internet marketing mumbo-jumbo that a lot of people trying to get on Google's front page... simply don't understand or even realize there's something to learn in that area. Now, let's type in the following: "How Can I Build a Log Cabin From Scratch in One Year?" Wow! No results for that long-tail keyword phrase. Consequently, if you use that as your title, when someone types in that exact phrase, you'll probably be the only article located on that page.
It's all about being "specific." Always check out your keywords in the keyword tools that you use. It will really help to fine tune your titles.
What are meta tags? This is a special HTML tag which provides information about a certain web page. It doesn't change how the page is displayed, it just gives information as to who created the page, how many times is it updated, what the page is about and what the keywords are that represent the page's content.
Google does not use the meta keyword tag, although some search engines do. Google does use keywords to identify a website's relevance to a user's search. It looks for keywords in your title tag, the URL, the content of the page and the incoming links to rank your site against competitors.
How often, where you use them and the quality of your keywords are the most critical factors. The very best quality keywords are those that are being used by those searching for your products or services.
Therefore, as you can clearly see, a well designed SEO program begins with "keyword research" to determine the best keywords to use for your particular business.
With meta tags, you'll want to use ones that cover a wide area, such as... health, allergies, making money, diet, etc.
With keywords you will need to be specific. Use only a combination of keywords that are very specifically related to the relevance of your article.
